The Balami Ram is the most predominant breed in the Northeastern part of Nigeria. The Balami ram is a predominantly white and hairy breed with a pronounced convex heat and a dull depression. It has a dewlap-like fold of skin with a white mane. The ear is large and droopy with a pretty long tail. There are three major classes of Nigeria’s indigenous sheep breeds. They are classified according to their sizes. Balami is a large, long-legged and long-tailed breed with an average adult weight of 45-100kg with large horns prominent in the Ram.

• Provide adequate animal space based on its size, breed and other recommendations.
• Manage space facilities with sanitation and disease prevention in mind.

• Sheep require water and energy (carbohydrates and fats) for optimal growth and production. Provide fresh water 24/7.
• Provide adequate roughage (hay, silage or pasture).
• Keep slaughter lambs off feed for 24 hours before slaughter.
• Provide water to lambs before slaughter.
